News Summary

The website is changing!

This website will be changing in a progressive and stepwise fashion over the coming weeks until it is:

  1. being delivered entirely via a new content management system (Plone 3.0)

  2. has had a completely new design applied (designer wyattgraphics)

The new sermons section will be available immediately from the new site (colours still to be changed).

As part of this process the design is changing to a white and green look.  Further refinements will be made to the design over the summer.

Apart from a fresh look, the new site will primarily improve ability for content to be managed by content owners and provide more responsive ways to interact with the site (e.g. automated RSS news and events feeds)

Third Certificate Awarded to Highfields

Observant Highfielders will have noticed two awards displayed between Jenny's office door and the lift entrance in the foyer.

  1. We gained a Bronze Award soon after the building's completion, to note efforts made to ensure that the building is welcoming to those who have visual, auditory or mobility impairments.
  2. Soon afterwards, it was decided that the church should support Fair Trade principles by buying only Fair Trade certified tea, coffee, sugar and hot chocolate for church events. A Tearfund/Fair Trade Foundation certificate was awarded for that decision.
  3. In 2007, information on the church building and on energy usage by all the staff, along with a small number of participating household scores, was submitted to the Church Climate Change Campaign run by Tearfund. The scores obtained for environmentally sensitive practises resulted in Highfields gaining a Gold Award, which will be displayed alongside the other certificates in the foyer.

All three certificates are challenges for us to continue to apply the gospel in all areas of our life. Care for the weak, the poor and the environment is high on the Biblical agenda.

These certificates should remind us as we go in and out of the Church Centre that - 'The earth is the Lord's and everything in it; the world and all its peoples' (Ps.24:1).

Book of the Month: "The Cross of Christ" by John Stott

Why is the universal symbol of the Christian faith a gruesome reminder of a horrible means of execution?  This magnificent book explains the significance of the cross and answers the objections commonly brought against Biblical teaching on the atonement.   The cross is central to our faith. This book will help you understand why, and what it means to live as Christians under the cross.

Price £6 - from the bookstall
