What is Christianity all about?

The meaning of Life! Have you ever considered why you were born? It sounds like a simple question. We were born to live, of course. So how do we spend our lives here on earth? The average person spends about:

• 20 years of their life asleep.

• Another 5 years travelling to and from work.

• Work itself takes up an amazing 18 years of their life

• They spend 12 years watching TV or reading.

• And about 5 years eating and drinking.

But is that ALL we were born for? To eat and sleep and work and watch TV? Surely there is more to life than this?

Of course! Life is about relationships. With friends and family and work colleagues. We spend our lives getting to know people, interacting with them and loving and being loved. 

The problem is that we also spend a lot of this life in anger, and hatred. We easily move into greed and selfishness, and looking after number one. And we spoil the whole purpose of our lives - our relationships. And, what is worse, we spoil the most important of all relationships we can ever have - the one with our creator.

You see, God made us for a purpose and that purpose is to know Him and have a relationship with Him. By filling our lives with selfish actions and attitudes we push God away from us. We make Him our enemy.

And so- though we were born to LIVE- we instead, deserve to DIE.

And this seems to be the sad state of affairs for all mankind. None of us deserve anything, because we are all so selfish in our motives. But there was one man who was not.  He was not born like the rest of us. His purpose was not that He was born to live, but that He was born to DIE. JESUS is different from all of us, because HE was born so that He could DIE FOR US. YES! For us!

We deserve to die for our selfish and sinful minds and hearts, but He is perfect, and is willing to pay the ultimate price for us, by dying in our place.

He takes all our guilt and selfishness and anger and hatred and pays for it in His death on the cross, so that we can LIVE and not really DIE.

If we believe in our hearts that Jesus is God and that he rose from the dead to conquer sin, and if we admit that we need His forgiveness and ask Him to take away our punishment and forgive us our sin- He says He will do it.
