Introduction What is Christianity About?

About our Faith

'In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight' (Proverbs 3:6)

We share with many other Christians a belief in and commitment to the historic truths of the Church:

  • We believe in the uniqueness of Jesus Christ as both the fully divine Son of God and the fully human son of Mary; we believe His life of perfect obedience and His death in our place for our sins are the means by which we are brought into a new relationship with God.
  • We believe in the physical resurrection of Christ from the dead and His return in glory to judge all people.
  • We believe in the necessity of a personal response to Christ and the presence of the Holy Spirit to indwell and empower the Christian.
  • We believe in the reality of everlasting life and everlasting judgement.
  • We believe in the reliability and the trustworthiness of the Bible as the unique revelation of God's character and purposes for the world.
Highfields has developed a Church culture in which these orthodox truths are expressed in an accessible way. So in a visit to the Church on any given Sunday you will sing hymns ancient and modern with a music group, different people will take part in an informal but serious way and a significant amount of time will be given to explaining the Bible.

Over the years hundreds of people have come to love and appreciate this pattern of Sunday worship in which all ages are encouraged to feel part of the Community of faith and in which God is honoured and His word made relevant.

Throughout the week, and in so many groups, activities and events, we pray, study and encourage each other to grow in faith, using our gifts to help others and to present the message in a credible, relevant and challenging way.

We are a Church that offers people the opportunity to explore the great questions of life from a distinctly Christian perspective. Each week there are individuals who are searching for answers, some of whom find in Christ the way the truth and the life.

We are a church committed to being at the heart of community so our plans include a number of social and educational initiatives which are being resourced from the Centre in Monthermer Road. This project expresses our desire to be involved, serving the area and demonstrating practically the love of Christ for the whole person - body, mind and spirit.
