- Waiting for Christmas
Dear Friends
"You'll have to wait and see!" were words which I remember frequently as a child from my parents as I asked them about the long list of things which I was desperately hoping they'd remembered for Christmas. It was a very annoying thing to say to an eight year old!
To wait is a basic element of Christian faith - "being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see." (Hebrews 11:1)
And it's one of the strong themes of Advent. God's people wait for the Day of the Lord. That is their hope, the coming of the One who will restore, renew and judge.
Waiting in Scripture is a sign of trusting the God who makes promises. Therefore it's not like waiting for a bus or train which may never arrive. It's a certainty that the God who makes promises keeps them.
So let's join with each other in the waiting room of faith this Christmas and pray that as we share the good news of Christmas with friends, family and neighbours, inviting them to one of the great events being organised, they too will be convinced that God is worth waiting for.
Happy Christmas
